Identity Checks - Right to Work

Zipwire + Yoti can be used to check someone's identity for employment.

We've integrated with Yoti, an identity checks IDSP based in the UK who implement NIST-certified Identity Verification Technology, see IDVT.

Yoti were the first to become an authorised IDSP by the UK government and are used by many companies including banks, computer games companies, background checking businesses and large social media companies.

Right to Work

Most countries have published strict laws on who can and cannot be employed. Companies must gather and verify evidence from every new hire they take on as to who they are, their citizenship and whether they have the right to work.

Governments have recognised that

  • Increasingly, people are being hired into remote work positions and in some cases the employer has no fixed office space.

  • Modern anti-fraud and AI technology can be used effectively to reduce the burden of information gathering and ID checking, sometimes doing a better job than untrained staff at spotting fraud.

Governments have therefore started to put together comprehensive rules around the use of this technology (IDVT) and the standards it must meet, in addition to rules around what information to collect and verify, how to keep records and when to delete them.

Keeping records and demonstrating use of approved technology is paramount. A company found to have employed someone working illegally will be investigated and they must be able to prove they have followed all government guidelines and could not have reasonably known the person was making a false representation in order to work illegally.

Zipwire Collect and Record Keeping

Our product is perfectly suited to collect information and documented evidence, perform ID checks and track outcomes of review by the employer. It also let's you log indelible notes against collections.

Moreover, Zipwire not only checks someone's identity via Yoti, but can optionally run AML checks. The report is stored for later use.

When taking on a new recruit, companies often need to collect more than just their ID documents, which is why Zipwire Collect can be configured to ask the respondent for different kinds of manually entered information as well as a wide range of documents, such as insurance certificates, utility bills, tax forms and so on.

Document Types

With Zipwire Collect + Yoti you have all you need to conveniently gather information from your new recruit, prove their right to work and retain the records you need to demonstrate compliance with the law.

Reviewing Checks with Claude

Yoti's checks confirm a document is genuine and that the face matches it—they can't confirm the document belongs to the person who submitted it. If you connect Zipwire's MCP server to Claude Desktop, Claude can read a collection's ID check results alongside the self-declared identity and catch a mismatch between the two, even when every individual Yoti check has passed.
